MrSowers will defend his masters' thesis on Thursday (Thu, April 10, 13:00 to 14:00, venue TBD). He will propose a data mining approach to refining preexisting grammar-based definitions of games, wherein a user can specify buildings which they prefer, and from these preferences a set of rules will be generated that will guide future building generation. He shows that the generated rules have a high degree of accuracy when used to predict whether a user will like or dislike a building, often in the upper 90%. Come along and support your fellow grad students! .title Battlestar starts
Battlestar started Friday. Starbuck may be a Cylon. Like we didn't know. Not up to date? Here's a synposis. .title New lab space?
DrTrapp and DrWoerner meet to discuss room space and how to fuse together the two labs of MsTanner and DrMenzies. It is a complex issue- when the new engineering wing opens, there will be much rearragement of lab space. Do we move now or do we wait for that? No answers, yet. .title Ted Nelson speaks at WVU .tags talk

MrSowers, MrGay, and DrMenzies attended the NSF CodeWorks workshop (http://clc.as.wvu.edu:8080/clc/nsfworkshop ). MrSowers gave the demo to end all demos. In fact, it nearly ended 30 seconds into the demo when MrSowers told his audience (a room full of artists) that he was going to use his AI tools to get rid of all artists. Happily, they let him live and he lives to present his thesis, on Thursday. DrMenzies was at the same conference and found he had written completely the wrong talk (on the economics of creativity: http://menzies.us/index.php?news=7143). One manic morning of typing later, a second talk was written and given (on why we should think about Turing machines http://menzies.us/talks/turing/ ). .title New work at the ATL .tags AtL
